Singapore Sail Grand Prix 2023 Final Race

The Sail Grand Prix (SailGP) Championship 2022- 2023, which is in its 3rd season, is made up of a calendar which takes place across the globe throughout the season where athletes pilot the world’s fastest boat- the F50 catamaran. It is Singapore’s 1st time hosting a Sail Grand Prix, and is also the only Asian location on the calender.

Events take place across two days on each race weekend, with six fleet races leading to qualification of the top 3 teams to complete in The Final. The penultimate race at the last event of the season is the Grand Final – this is a race in which the three highest ranked teams in the season leaderboard go head-to-head to be crowned SailGP champions and win the monetary prize.

In this episode, New Zealand battled back from a four-point pre-event penalty after a collision with the United States in practice to win the Singapore Sail Grand Prix, overcoming tricky conditions to defeat Denmark and Australia in The Final. It marked the third event win of the season for the team. The Kiwis left Denmark and Australia trailing in their wake and wowed crowds with a 100% fly time, an average speed of 53 km/h and top speed of 77.1 km/h.

The refreshed Championship leaderboard sees Australia retain its first place position with 68 points, and New Zealand close the gap with 59 points in second. Great Britain knocks France from the top three to move into third with 54 points, while France drops down to fourth.

The nine-strong fleet will next meet at the Australia Sail Grand Prix on February 18-19.
